Tea Grading Standards
Douyun Maojian tea is classified into five grades: Supreme, Premium, Special Grade, Grade One, and Grade Two.
- Supreme: The fresh leaves consist of over 90% single buds and less than 10% one bud with one unfolding leaf. The appearance is tightly curled, covered with white fuzz, with a uniform tender green color.
- Premium: This grade consists of over 90% one bud with one unfolding leaf and less than 10% tender single buds. The appearance is tightly and slightly curled, with exposed white fuzz and a glossy green color.
- Special Grade: This consists of tender one bud with one leaf.
- Grade One: This consists of one bud with two unfolding leaves and tender one bud with two leaves.
- Grade Two: This consists of tender one bud with two leaves and similarly tender leaves.
How to Brew Maojian Tea in a Cup
- Get ready: You’ll need a glass or ceramic cup and some green tea leaves.
- Heat water: Warm it up to about 80-85°C (176-185°F). Don’t use boiling water - it’s too hot and can make the tea taste bitter.
- Add tea leaves: Put about 3-5 grams of tea leaves (or 1-2 teaspoons) directly into your cup.
- Pour water: Slowly add about 200-250ml (7-8 fl oz) of the warm water to your cup, or enough to fill it about 2/3 full.
- Let it steep: Wait for 1-3 minutes. The leaves will slowly sink to the bottom of the cup.
- Enjoy: Sip slowly, enjoying the fresh taste of your green tea. You can add more hot water to the same leaves for a second or third brew.
