Description

Oolong Tea, also known as Qing tea, is a type of semi-fermented tea. Although referred to as "semi-fermented," the degree of fermentation varies, ranging from light fermentation close to green tea to heavy fermentation almost like black tea. The main production area for oolong tea is Fujian Province in China, with famous varieties such as Tie Guan Yin and Da Hong Pao.

Oolong tea undergoes multiple processes, including picking, withering, tossing, fixation, rolling, and roasting, resulting in tea leaves of excellent quality. The taste lingers pleasantly in the mouth, leaving a sweet and fresh aftertaste. The pharmacological effects of oolong tea are notable for breaking down fats, aiding in weight loss, and enhancing beauty, earning it the names "beauty tea" and "slimming tea."

The brewing method for oolong tea often uses the "gongfu tea" technique. Examples include the oolong tea brewing method popular in the Chaoshan region and the Tie Guan Yin brewing method in the Anxi region, both of which belong to the "gongfu tea" method. The traditional gongfu tea method not only requires high-quality tea but also demands elaborate tea utensils.

The key to brewing oolong tea lies in controlling the water temperature. A temperature of around 90 degrees Celsius is most suitable, which is also the temperature of water from a standard office water dispenser. Due to the complicated brewing process, oolong tea has yet to gain widespread market acceptance.
