The 8th China International Tea Expo opened on May 21. Spanning five days, the expo continues the theme “Tea and the World: Shared Development,” and for the first time adopts a coordinated “One Exhibition, Two Venues” format—hosted simultaneously at the Hangzhou International Expo Center and the Longwu Exhibition Hall. The event attracted over 1,500 branded tea enterprises, more than 100,000 products covering the entire industrial chain, and industry representatives from over 30 countries and regions.

The Tea Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (TRI-CAAS) unveiled multiple Blue Book research outcomes. In addition, the Longwu Tea Science & Innovation Center—jointly established by TRI-CAAS and the People’s Government of Xihu District—was officially inaugurated that afternoon, marking the center’s formal operation.

Focus on Three Innovation Platforms

The center focuses on three core platforms: tea plant biological breeding, digital tea industry, and tea nutrition and health. It aims to tackle key technological challenges in China’s tea industry and provide integrated, engineering-level innovative technology products and achievements for the industry’s high-quality development.

Co-establish West Lake Longjing Tea Research Institute

Concurrently, the West Lake Longjing Tea Research Institute was co-established to support Xihu District in becoming a national demonstration zone for integrated development of tea culture, tea industry, and tea science.

Inauguration Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony was hosted by Yao Mingzhe, Deputy Director of TRI-CAAS. Distinguished guests included Academicians Tang Huajun and Chen Zongmao, Deputy Director Cao Yongsheng of CAAS, and officials from Zhejiang Province and Xihu District. They jointly witnessed this important moment.

Deputy Director Cao Yongsheng emphasized that the center’s establishment is a vivid practice of implementing the “Three Tea Integration” spirit and a model for collaborative innovation between research institutions and local government. The center will focus on high-level positioning, high-standard collaboration, and high-quality transformation to lead the tea industry’s upgrade.
